A Journey of Growth, Purpose, and Perseverance
Jessica Sanchez's 14-year journey at Penny Lane is a remarkable example of dedication, perseverance, and a passion for serving others. After earning her bachelor's degree in Sociology from California State University, Los Angeles, Jessica joined Penny Lane as a Residential Counselor and has continued to grow through a variety of roles, including Child and Family Specialist, In-Home Outreach Counselor, Program Coordinator, and now Outpatient Therapist.
This year marked another major milestone in Jessica's career as she earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) from California State University, Northridge (CSUN). She is proud to bring her advanced clinical training back to the very organization where she has built her entire professional career. Her story is a testament to the opportunities for growth at Penny Lane and the impact of investing in both personal and professional development.
Driven by a desire to make a meaningful difference, Jessica credits Penny Lane for providing the flexibility, encouragement, and support she needed to pursue higher education while continuing to serve children and families. Through every transition, she has remained committed to the agency's mission and to the community she serves.
Today, Jessica continues to inspire those around her through her compassion, resilience, and lifelong commitment to learning. Her journey reflects not only her own determination but also the supportive culture that makes Penny Lane feel like home.
I am Jessica Sanchez, and I recently graduated from California State University, Northridge with my Master of Social Work (MSW). I am now serving our community as an Outpatient Therapist and am incredibly proud to use my new degree at the very organization where I have built my entire career.
I have been with Penny Lane for 14 years. Before joining the agency, I earned my bachelor's degree in Sociology from Cal State LA. Since starting here shortly after graduating, nearly all of my professional experience and knowledge in social services has been gained through my work at Penny Lane.
I wanted to work for an organization where I could make a meaningful impact, and Penny Lane's mission aligned perfectly with my own values. That shared purpose inspired me to join the agency as a Residential Counselor at the Main Facility, now known as Witherbee.
The opportunity for continuous growth and learning is what I value most. Working alongside the diverse children, families, and individuals we serve allows me to learn something new every day while making a positive difference in their lives.
My career has been a journey of continuous growth. I began as a Residential Counselor before transitioning into Wraparound as a Child and Family Specialist, then Family Preservation as an In-Home Outreach Counselor, followed by Program Coordinator, and now Outpatient Therapist. Throughout every step, Penny Lane provided the guidance, encouragement, and support I needed to grow into each new role.
The flexibility and educational support made all the difference. During graduate school, Penny Lane worked with me to create schedules that allowed me to balance work and school, including a 4/40 schedule and a customized work schedule during my second year. Receiving the HCAI stipend also helped offset the cost of earning my master's degree.
I wouldn't say there has been anything particularly difficult—it's simply a new experience with new responsibilities. I enjoy the challenge and look forward to the day when everything feels completely second nature.
My husband and I share the exact same birthday and were even born in the same hospital! It's a fun coincidence that always surprises people.
Becoming a mother has had the greatest impact on my life. Seeing the world through my son's eyes has given me new perspectives and motivates me every day to become the best version of myself.
To take action even when you're afraid. Before returning to school, I doubted whether I could complete my master's degree. Despite those fears, I moved forward with the support of my family and colleagues. Those two years were challenging, but together we accomplished something I once thought was out of reach.
The relationships I have built with my colleagues mean the most to me. I have found people who genuinely care, support me through challenges, and celebrate my successes. Those friendships have become one of the greatest gifts of my career.
I am incredibly grateful for the people who stood beside me through life's challenges and celebrated every milestone along the way. Their encouragement has helped make my journey possible.
Congratulations, Jessica, on your incredible accomplishment and well-earned promotion! We are proud to celebrate your journey and look forward to seeing the many lives you will continue to impact as an Outpatient Therapist.
