Building Hope This Holiday Season

December 1, 2025

With Gratitude

The holidays are often painted as a season of comfort—a time filled with traditions, shared meals, and connection. Yet, for many of the children, youth, and families we serve, this time of year also magnifies struggle. The rising cost of living, unstable housing, and continued social divides have made it harder than ever for vulnerable communities to feel safe or hopeful. At Penny Lane Centers, we see those realities every single day—and we remain steadfast in our mission to build something brighter. But we cannot do it alone.

Across Los Angeles County, families are facing hardships that no one should have to endure—parents deciding whether to pay rent or buy groceries, youth couch-surfing to avoid sleeping on the streets, and children absorbing the stress of instability they did not create. For communities of color, immigrants, and LGBTQ+ youth, the fear is not just about surviving the holiday season—it’s about navigating a world where their identities are too often questioned, politicized, or attacked. These young people deserve more than a place to struggle through life; they deserve spaces where they can grow, dream, and thrive.

The world feels divided in ways that can feel overwhelming. We hear it in the news, see it online, and feel it in conversations—issues that should unite us instead pull us apart. Yet, in these moments of uncertainty, something remarkable continues to happen at Penny Lane: people show up. Staff show up. Families show up. Supporters like you show up. And together, we build—not with bricks and mortar, but with compassion, resources, and unwavering belief in human potential.

This Holiday Season, we invite you to join us in Building Hope. Hope is not passive. It is a force that rebuilds confidence, restores possibility, and reminds each person we serve that they matter. Your gift—whether a toy for a child, warm clothing for a youth, groceries for a struggling family, or a financial contribution of any amount—does more than fill a need. It communicates something powerful: You are not alone.

Meet Rowan. When they first arrived at Penny Lane, they were not looking for services—they were searching for safety. As a young LGBTQ+ person, Rowan often felt invisible, misunderstood, and unsafe in environments where authenticity was seen as a threat. Through our LGBTQ+ outreach program, Rowan found community, affirmation, and a team that saw who they were—not who the world told them to be. Today, Rowan talks about Penny Lane not as a program, but as a place where their future came into focus. You helped make that future possible.

These are not isolated stories; they are threads woven through our programs every day. Your support strengthens our mental health services, stabilizes housing programs, fuels youth development initiatives, and creates safe spaces where young people can explore who they are and who they want to become. When you give, you are not just responding to a need—you are reshaping outcomes.

And then there is Rachel. After years of homelessness, fear, and uncertainty, she arrived at Imagine Village not knowing what to expect—only praying for a chance. What she found was dignity, safety, and a community that believed in her before she knew how to believe in herself. When Rachel held the key to her apartment for the first time, she didn’t just unlock a door—she unlocked peace, stability, and a vision of what her life could be. That moment was not an accident. It was the result of people like you choosing to build hope rather than accept despair.

As we enter the holiday season, we invite you to lean into generosity, empathy, and courage. In a world that can feel divided, your compassion unites. In a time where fear is loud, your actions speak louder. Thank you for ensuring that no child, youth, or family walks through this season—or this world—without hope.

Together, we are not just giving—we are transforming lives.
Together, we are building hope.

With Deepest Appreciation,

-Adrienne Khorasanee, Penny Lane Centers Board of Directors President
