Promotional Spotlight: Matthew Mandegar

This month, we are proud to feature Matthew Mandegar, whose journey to Penny Lane Centers is shaped by years of hands-on experience in smaller companies where he focused on networking and operations. While those roles were meaningful, nothing compared to the scale and purpose he discovered upon joining Penny Lane. What began as a career shift quickly became a deeper appreciation for the organization’s mission and the impact it makes every day.

Since stepping into his role, Network & Cloud Systems Administrator, Matthew has embraced the atmosphere of togetherness that defines the Penny Lane community. He values being part of a workplace that feels like a family and finds purpose in serving both employees and the community. Grateful for the opportunities to grow through training and support, Matthew sees Penny Lane not just as an employer but as a place where people and mission come first.

What was your journey prior to coming to Penny Lane (PLC)?

Before joining PLC, I spent most of my career working with smaller companies, focusing on networking and operations. It was a meaningful experience, but nothing close to the scale of what we manage here at PLC.

What brought you to Penny Lane?

I originally found PLC through Indeed, but once I learned more about the work the organization does, I was genuinely intrigued. That’s what made me want to be part of the team.

What is your favorite aspect of working at PLC?

The atmosphere of togetherness really feels like a family working at PLC.

What was the path to promotion like for you?

The path wasn’t particularly difficult, but I did need to demonstrate my expertise and knowledge along the way.

What were some benefits that PLC offers that you took advantage of to further your education/career with PLC? (i.e., License renewal, education reimbursement, internship, sign-on bonus, bilingual differential, loan forgiveness, etc.).

I took advantage of paid training opportunities here at PLC, which was really helpful in expanding my skills and supporting my professional growth.

What has been the most difficult part of your new role thus far?

The most challenging part so far has been maintaining clear documentation and communication.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

I’m pretty open, so there’s not much I hide.

What event in your life shaped you significantly?

I would have to say the passing of my father had a significant impact on me. Even though he faced health challenges from a young age, he never let that stop him from pursuing everything he wanted in life. He was a pilot, jeweler, mechanic, contractor, and more. Watching him live life on his own terms, without worrying about what anyone else thought, really shaped the way I approach my own life.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever got?

Live the Life of Your Dreams: Be brave enough to live the life of your dreams according to your vision and purpose instead of the expectations and opinions of others.

What do you appreciate most about Penny Lane?

What I appreciate most about working for Penny Lane is that it has purpose and puts employees and the community before itself.

Please share something you are grateful for.

I’m grateful to work at Penny Lane. It’s the longest I’ve been with any company, and that’s because I work with such a great team.

Congratulations Matt!
