Marisol’s journey with Penny Lane Centers is a true reflection of what it means to grow with purpose. Drawn to PLC by a deep-rooted desire to give back and support her community, she first joined the agency as an intern during the final year of her bachelor’s program. From the very beginning, Marisol recognized that Penny Lane was more than just a workplace—it was a place where her values aligned with meaningful action. After graduating, she stepped into a Staff Assistant role within the FFA program and later expanded her experience in RSS/RHAS, steadily building a strong foundation rooted in compassion, service, and commitment.
With a clear vision for her future, Marisol continued to invest in her growth by pursuing her master’s degree in social work while working at PLC. Supported by the agency’s educational reimbursement program and the encouragement of supervisors who believed in her potential, she transitioned into a therapist role, gained critical clinical experience, and ultimately achieved her LCSW licensure. Now stepping into her new role as a Clinician in our North Hills office, Marisol brings not only her expertise but also a deep sense of purpose shaped by her personal journey and professional dedication. Her story is a powerful example of how Penny Lane supports its staff in turning passion into impact—and careers into lifelong callings.
I was drawn to PLC because of the community we serve. From a young age, I’ve always felt a strong desire to give back and support others, so being part of an organization that aligns with those values felt like a natural fit.
My favorite aspect of working at Penny Lane is the opportunity for growth. The organization genuinely invests in its employees, and I’ve felt consistently supported throughout my professional journey as I’ve advanced in my career.
My journey with Penny Lane Centers began as an intern during the final year of my bachelor’s program. After graduating, I joined the FFA program as a Staff Assistant and later transferred to a program within RSS/RHAS. During that time, I realized I was ready to take the next step in my career and returned to school to pursue my master’s degree in social work.
After completing my degree, I transitioned into a therapist role, where I gained valuable clinical experience that helped me achieve my LCSW licensure. I’m incredibly grateful to the supervisors and directors who believed in me, encouraged my growth, and supported me throughout my journey.
Penny Lane’s educational reimbursement program played a major role in helping me pursue my master’s degree. It also supported me through the costs associated with my ASW application, license renewals, professional training, and most recently, my licensure exam.
Because of this benefit, I felt more financially supported and confident in pursuing my long-term goal of becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
The most difficult part of my role has been navigating limited resources while working with individuals who have urgent and complex needs. It can be challenging to know that someone needs immediate support, but there are barriers within the system. Despite this, I am committed to advocating for my clients and helping them access the best possible care.
People might be surprised to know that I love baking sourdough—almost anything! From bread loaves to pancakes, waffles, cookies, and scones, I enjoy experimenting with different recipes. I started this hobby during the pandemic, and it has since become one of my favorite ways to relax and unwind. I love to share my starter and show others how to make bread, feel free to ask me questions!
The best piece of advice I’ve ever received is to not be anxious about anything, but instead to bring everything to God in prayer with gratitude. This reminder has helped me find peace during difficult moments and stay grounded, knowing that not everything is within my control. (Philippians 4:6–7)
One of the most significant experiences in my life happened when I was six years old. I witnessed my mom being treated poorly because she only spoke Spanish, and it left a lasting impact on me. In that moment, I knew I wanted to do better for my community. I made a promise to myself to treat everyone with dignity and respect, regardless of their background or language. That experience has been a driving force in my life and ultimately inspired me to become an LCSW, where I can advocate for and support others in meaningful ways.
What I appreciate most about Penny Lane Centers is the genuine care the organization shows for its staff. PLC tries to keep employees informed and involved, especially through transparent communication like town halls and access to leadership.
I also value the opportunities for professional growth and the ability to build a meaningful career within the agency.
I am deeply grateful for my family, and especially for the opportunity to be a mother. I’m thankful for how far God has brought me, for my health, and for the gift of each new day of life.
As Marisol steps into her new role as a Clinician in our North Hills office, we are incredibly proud to celebrate this well-earned milestone. Her journey reflects resilience, dedication, and a deep commitment to serving others with compassion and dignity. Marisol embodies the very heart of Penny Lane—growth, purpose, and community—and we are so excited to see the continued impact she will make in this next chapter.
Congratulations Marisol!
