CFRC in Action: Building Community, One Event at a Time

The Community and Family Resource Centers (CFRC) continue to create meaningful opportunities for families to connect, learn, celebrate, and thrive throughout Los Angeles County. From wellness activities and seasonal celebrations to youth workshops and family-centered events, our North Hills and Antelope Valley teams work tirelessly to bring hope, joy, and support directly into the communities we serve. Each month, we are proud to highlight the incredible moments, partnerships, and success stories that showcase the heart of CFRC and the lasting impact these programs have on children, youth, and families.

This new monthly feature will spotlight the vibrant events and community experiences happening across our CFRC sites, celebrating the families, staff, partners, and volunteers who make it all possible. Whether it’s children picking out Easter baskets, families receiving bikes that encourage healthy living, or youth building confidence through sports and mentorship, these moments remind us that community care and connection can truly change lives. We invite you to take a look back at some of the inspiring events from this past month and celebrate the joy, resilience, and togetherness that continue to define CFRC.

Wheels for Wellness Spring Bike Giveaway

On April 16th, the Community and Family Resource Center (CRFC) hosted a vibrant and impactful Wheels for Wellness Spring Bike Giveaway at our Penny Lane North Hills facility. This special event was designed to promote healthy habits, encourage physical activity, and strengthen family bonding, all of which are key components in supporting overall wellbeing and addressing important social determinants of health such as access to recreation, community connection, and preventive wellness.

Families arrived with excitement and were warmly welcomed by the team from Willys Bikes, a local bicycle business based in Lake View Terrace. Their staff played an essential role in making the day a success by guiding each family through the process of selecting the right bike, adjusting seats for comfort, and properly fitting helmets to ensure safety. Their patience, expertise, and genuine care created a supportive and engaging experience for every participant.

Beyond receiving a bike, families were able to spend quality time together in a festive and welcoming environment. Attendees enjoyed a delicious catered meal from Hibachi Valley 818, along with sweet treats provided by Bebesitas Dulces, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. The event created a space where families could connect, relax, and build positive memories together.

The Wheels for Wellness Spring Bike Giveaway reflects CFRC’s commitment to fostering healthier communities by providing resources that support both physical and emotional wellbeing. By creating opportunities for families to stay active and connected, we continue to invest in long term wellness and stronger community ties.

Spring Smiles & Community Support: AV CFRC Easter Basket Giveaway Brings Joy to Local Families

This Easter season, Penny Lane Centers’ Antelope Valley Community and Family Resource Center (CFRC) partnered with Single Mothers Outreach of Santa Clarita to help bring joy, comfort, and celebration to families throughout the community. Through this meaningful collaboration, families were provided with festive Easter baskets filled with special surprises, creating moments of excitement and happiness for children and caregivers alike. The event served as a reminder of the power of community partnerships and the impact that compassion and generosity can have on families during meaningful times of the year.

Thanks to the incredible support and coordination from Single Mothers Outreach, countless children experienced the joy of receiving a personalized Easter basket while parents felt supported, celebrated, and cared for. Distribution day was filled with smiles, laughter, and heartfelt gratitude as families gathered to participate in the celebration. Beyond the baskets themselves, the event created opportunities for families to connect, make memories, and experience a sense of belonging within a warm and welcoming environment.

The Antelope Valley CFRC team remains deeply committed to creating experiences that uplift and empower the families we serve. Events like the Easter Basket Giveaway reflect the heart of our mission: strengthening families through community support, meaningful resources, and moments of joy that leave a lasting impact. By working alongside community partners who share the same vision, we continue to build stronger connections and create positive experiences for children and families across the Antelope Valley.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Single Mothers Outreach for their generosity, partnership, and dedication to supporting families in our community. Their kindness helped make this Easter season truly memorable for so many families, and their commitment to uplifting others continues to inspire hope far beyond the holiday itself. Together, we are reminded that even small acts of kindness can create lasting memories and meaningful change within our communities.

NH CFRC Spring into Joy Easter Basket Giveaway

On April 3rd, the Community and Family Resource Center (CFRC)  brought the spirit of the season to life by hosting a joyful Easter Basket Giveaway for families in our community. With care and dedication, our CFRC team, in collaboration with RSS: Relative Support Services, thoughtfully prepared 100 Easter baskets for children, each one filled with festive surprises and items meant to spark joy.

The excitement was felt throughout the day as families gathered outside our Penny Lane North Hills main facility, forming a line filled with anticipation and smiles. One by one, children and their families were welcomed into the CFRC Resource Room, where they had the opportunity to select their own special basket. The experience was more than just a giveaway, it was a moment of connection, celebration, and community.

Inside, laughter and joy filled the space as children met the Easter Bunny and posed for memorable photos, creating moments that families will cherish. To make the day even more special, each family also received a Subway lunch to take home, ensuring that the celebration continued beyond their visit.

This event reflects CFRC’s ongoing commitment to creating meaningful, family centered experiences that bring comfort, joy, and a sense of belonging to the communities we serve.

Bombers Basketball Workshop Scores Big with Skill, Teamwork, and Enthusiasm

The North Hills Community and Family Resource Center (NH CFRC) recently hosted a 2-day Bombers Basketball Workshop that was a slam dunk success! Participants of all experience levels came together for an energetic and inspiring session focused on fundamentals, teamwork, and having fun on the court. The workshop reflected NH CFRC’s ongoing commitment to providing engaging, community-centered activities that promote wellness, confidence, and positive youth development.

Led by knowledgeable and enthusiastic coach Danny Dunn, who has over 15 years of coaching experience, the workshop covered essential basketball skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and defensive techniques. Through hands-on drills, friendly competitions, and small-group instruction, players were able to sharpen their skills while building confidence and learning new strategies.

Beyond the technical skills, the workshop emphasized the importance of sportsmanship, communication, and teamwork. Participants supported one another, celebrated progress, and demonstrated a positive attitude throughout the event—truly capturing the spirit of the game.

The energy in the CSUN SRC gym was contagious, with smiles, laughter, and plenty of encouragement filling the space. Many attendees shared how much they enjoyed the opportunity to learn, improve, and connect with others who share a passion for basketball. Participants were also excited to receive free backpacks, basketballs, and water bottles provided through the support of the NH CFRC team.

NH CFRC is proud of everyone who participated and grateful to Coach Danny Dunn, his assistants, and all the organizers who made this workshop possible. Events like this highlight the power of sports to bring people together, promote healthy activity, and inspire growth both on and off the court.

The NH CFRC team looks forward to hosting more basketball workshops in the future—stay tuned for the upcoming Basketball Summer Camp in June 2026, and keep practicing those skills!
