Behavioral Health Workforce Grant Program: Applicant Process and Portal

October 5, 2023

Community-Based Organization Behavioral Health Workforce Grant

Penny Lane Centers is excited to be able to offer this grant opportunity to our employees and volunteers who are providing behavioral healthcare at Penny Lane.  The Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI)administers health workforce programs. These workforce programs promote recruitment, expansion, training, and retention of the behavioral health workforce.  These grants require that employees or volunteers commit to a 12-month work commitment upon receiving the grant to provide direct behavioral healthcare. Those employees supervising direct care staff in a behavioral healthcare program are also able to apply and will also have a direct care service requirement.

Types of Grant Awards:

  • Undergraduate Scholarships of $25,000 (We are approved to give 9 awards this year)
  • Masters Stipend: This is for those employees/interns in their final year of their Masters program. The awards are $25,000. (We are approved to give 10 of these awards this year)
  • Loan Repayments: $25,000 to repay student loans. (We are approved to give 30 of these awards this year.)

How to Apply:

  • Eligible participants: Awards can only be granted to individuals who are employed at Penny Lane Centers or volunteering at Penny Lane Centers (must be behavioral health program). Any staff who wants to be considered for an award must apply through the portal from HCAI at the end of this email.
  • Central Program Application: Applicants must use the Central Program Application to submit a request for funding.  Please see the link from HCAI provided below. HCAI will then provide the application data to Penny Lane Centers to evaluate and select awardees in December. This link will only be open for two months each year to submit your application. This year the link will be open from September 18th-November 13th. You will be able to save and return to the application     from the same computer only. You are able to apply each year that the portal is open if you do not receive an award.
  • Awardees: Penny Lane has developed a scoring worksheet to make award selections once we get the list from HCAI of all the applicants. All applicants on the list provided from HCAI will receive an email with the selection criteria and will have the option of providing additional information if they chose to obtain additional points on the scoring worksheet.
  • Notification: If selected, Grant Recipients will be notified and have 10 days to review and sign the grant agreement.
