June is a time of extremes. If you live in the northern hemisphere, then it’s a time when summer is really starting to get into full swing! Every day lasts just a bit longer, making breezy summer evenings a real treat. If you live in the southern hemisphere though, then it’s a time when winter starts to set in properly. The days are shortening, and the nights are becoming fresher and fresher.
No matter where you are in the world, the end of June marks the end of the first half of the calendar year, so it’s a time to reflect on the year so far. Let’s take a deep dive into what we got going on at Penny Lane this month!
Penny Lane is LGBTQ+ affirming and thus we fully support any way you want to celebrate June as Pride Month. We also plan to participate in a few local pride events ourselves. In case you are looking for the right pride event to go, here is a list of just some of the many Pride events going on throughout Los Angeles County in June.
On Friday, June 17th, the Penny Lane Leadership Team will be conducting and hosting a Summer Fun Day of Service. The primary purpose of the day is to be of service to the clients and communities we serve by providing them with essentials and while we are at it a little fun. We will do this by setting aside time from our day-to-day work to work together to create “fun bags” for our clients and our communities.
We are so grateful for the donations received. Those donations will allow us to give back to our community in a very tangible way. The Summer Fun bags will include children’s shoes and socks, puzzles, games and various toiletries. It is our hope that, as the Summer begins, these goodies will encourage families to come together, strengthen relationships and enjoy quality time.
Penny Lane Centers is committed to transforming lives. Each and every day we work to enhance mental well-being, strengthen families, provide supportive housing and manage addiction, but we will not stop there. We know how important it is to have fun. Being able to enjoy quality time with one another and create memories is just an important as the many programs we offer. On June 17th we hope to give a little of that to our families and neighbors. Let us make the Summer Fun Day of Service a day where we can transform the Summer into something special for our community.
Penny Lane Centers, will be hosting L.A. County Mobile Vote Centers. Open to all- the community, staff, families and youth! No need to register just show up during the times listed and place your vote! Mobile Vote Centers provide the same services as traditional Vote Centers. The VSAP Mobile Voting Program allows the Los Angeles County Registrar- Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC) to meet the voting needs of essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic; a voting solution for everyone. So come down to Penny Lane Centers and VOTE!
PLUS: LA County Public Health Department will be on site administering COVID Vaccines.
