Penny Lane & the City of Lancaster Drive-thru Backpack Giveaway

Penny Lane partnered with the City of Lancaster to host a drive-thru backpack giveaway event at the AV Family Center.  The event occurred Saturday, July 29th from 11am-2pm.  Penny Lane gave away more than 600 backpacks and school supplies to Antelope Valley residents. There was a lot of collaboration with community partners in order to purchase backpacks, plan the event and traffic control.  All to implement a fun and safe event for our families. The Prevention & Aftercare program purchased 300 backpacks for middle and high school students and the City of Lancaster provided additional backpacks for elementary school children.   Prevention & Aftercare partnered with the AV Clinic Case Managers to provide volunteers, organize and distribute backpacks and snacks.  We are grateful for the Penny Lane volunteers that worked tirelessly in 105 degree heat to ensure the event ran smoothly: Anthony Melgar, Dulce Lopez, Debbie Mendez, Veronica Martinez, Jeovana Galindo, Jennifer Gorman, Jessica Rojas, Maritza Flores-Parra, Stephanie Cruz, Madeline Sacba, Araceli Cardoza.

Antelope Valley Kaiser Permanente Team Donates Backpacks to Penny Lane

Since 2016, the Kaiser team has been donating back packs for our kids in foster care out of our AV office and this year, they did it again. Not only did they donate the back packs, but they also donated all the school supplies that go inside.  In addition, they gave us such a generous donation that we were able to also provide back packs to some of the birth children of our resource families.  We truly couldn’t help our kids get ready for the start of a new year without the great support of Kaiser! We hope to continue teaming with them for years to come.

If you know of anyone who is a kinship caregiver and they need support? Please don’t hesitate to contact us! We take referrals direct from DCFS or self referrals.
