Exciting News: Penny Lane Receives a $3.5 Million Workforce Grant

We are very excited to announce that the Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) awarded Penny Lane a $3.5 million grant over the next four years. These workforce programs promote recruitment, expansion, training, and retention of the behavioral health workforce. The aim of the grant is to increase the number of trained behavioral health professionals, improve the quality of behavioral health services, and reduce behavioral health disparities in California. Penny Lane was awarded one of the highest amounts in the state. Check it out this month to see who was granted our first scholarship funding!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness month at Penny Lane Centers.  Mental health is a topic that affects many people, but unfortunately, is often stigmatized or ignored. By raising awareness about mental health we can all work together to break down barriers and support those in need. First and foremost, it's important to understand that mental health is just as important as physical health. In fact, the two are often intertwined. Poor mental health can lead to physical symptoms, and vice versa. So taking care of your mental health should be a top priority. Learn more about mental health awareness this month!

Every day we get to hear and share about all the amazing things happening at Penny Lane but, what we don't always realize the many things that happen behind the scenes. One of those “behind the scenes” things we would like to bring to the forefront is the Safety Summit. You are all probably wondering what is the Safety Summit? No, this is not when the Safety Summit members hike up to a tall mountain peak to contemplate all things safety. Monthly Cultural Corner - May 2023

This month you get to meet Jen Altamirano, the LGBTQ+ Advocate & Trainer out of the Antelope Valley Family Center.  Jen has been with Penny Lane for a little over 7months now. She comes from a Native American and Hispanic background, which she discovered 2 years ago. She was born in Phoenix, Arizona and moved to North Hollywood when she was 3years old. From there they moved to the Sylmar/San Fernando Valley where both her mother’s and father’s family lived. Check it out to learn more about Jen! Additionally, this month we discuss the recent shootings and the victims of senseless gun violence in the US- a must read!

Promotional Spotlight: Jessica Shaylor

Allow me to introduce to you this month’s promotional spotlight employee, Jessica Shaylor, Outpatient Therapist at our Antelope Valley Family Center location. Jessica started her career at Penny Lane in March 2021 as a Facilitator at our Antelope Valley location. Since that time, she has been diligent in following her dreams to become a therapist to continue helping families in her community. That diligence has paid off and she was promoted to Outpatient Therapist in March of this year! Check it out to learn more about Jessica this month!
