Community Spotlight: Michelle and Jerry Galaviz

This month you get to meet Michelle and Jerry Galaviz, high school teachers in the Antelope Valley. They were in the process of planning their wedding and were motivated by the idea of helping programs for youth. As they planned, the idea of wedding favors came to mind.  They noticed when you attend weddings people often do not take or forget to take the wedding favors. They both thought to use this money to “give back” to youth in their community as a donation. Additionally, we highlight another donation from the "Big Sunday" organization for our AV TAY Center. A must read!

August Client Success Stories

This month we have three clients that all successfully graduated from our programs. We had one of our clients receive their certification to become a paralegal, another client get the help they needed and now are starting their college career, and one of our TAY clients successfully graduate out of the Antelope Valley TAY Center. If is always difficult seeing those that we become close with leave but at the same time we are so proud of their accomplishments. July was Banging at Penny Lane

This past July was BANGING at Penny Lane Centers. We had so much going on it was almost as spectacular as the 4th of July fireworks. We had a special visit from a California State Assemblymember, highlight our new Wellness Wednesdays at the Commerce Drop-in Center, celebrate our mentee/mentor mixer we had this past Friday, a summer picnic for our APSS families, and the SUD teams summer retreat. In our monthly Wellness Corner our North Hills Family Center SUD Services Director, Lara Hoffman, shares her thoughts on the impact of recovery on wellness. It can have a profound effect on people in recovery in terms of successful recovery outcomes and overall physical health and well-being. Overall health is especially crucial for people in recovery because research shows that individuals with substance use disorders die years earlier than those without these disorders. Promotional Spotlight: Ingrid Ruiz

We are pleased to announce this month’s promotional spotlight employee, Ingrid Ruiz, who is currently a CalWORKS Outpatient Therapist at our Antelope Valley Location. Ingrid was hired by Penny Lane in August 2019 as a Therapeutic Behavioral Specialist (TBS) at our Antelope Valley location. With her drive and determination to continuously learn and improve, she transferred to Intensive Services TBS Coordinator in March 2022. Soon after, she began an internship with us in May 2022 as a part time Therapist intern, while finishing her education. Now she is a therapist for our CalWORKS program, check it out to learn more about Ingrid this month!
