Its question many of us struggle with.  We know people spend a lot of time protecting themselves or hiding parts of themselves to avoid conflict and/or embarrassment or securing power at the job.  But this subtly, or maybe not so subtly, creates the “me at work” versus the “real me”. Community Spotlight: Sensei David Chung

In this month's Community Spotlight we feature Sensei David Chung. Dragon and Crane Dojo is a traditional karate studio serving kids, teens, and adults. Chief instructor David Chung was motivated to open the dojo upon reflecting on the degree to which the skills he learned implicitly as a karate instructor in his youth - emotional intelligence, cross-cultural fluency, and community engagement - informed his career as a software engineer.  Check it out and you too will want to join his Dojo or give it a try for free!

Penny Lane's LGBTQ+ Programs Expand!

Penny Lane’s LGBTQ+ Programs are expanding with a much-loved program  returning – now better than ever!  Embracing Identities is back and will now cover SPAs 1, 2, 3, & 7: the Antelope Valley, the San Fernando Valley, the San Gabriel Valley, and the East LA area. Embracing Identities is a program designed to support LGBTQ+ youth aged 16 to 25.  The program offers a range of services, check it out! Additionally, we are getting close to our 13th Annual EDGY Conference on May 10th- save your seat now and register this month!

Monthly Cultural Corner - April 2023

This month you get to meet Mike Morelllino, the Regional Director for the Commerce Clinic. Mike just celebrated his 15 year anniversary with Penny Lane! He is half Italian and half of a mix of Dutch, French and English. He identifies with his Italian heritage the most as that was most dominate in his home growing up. His father was proud of his Italian heritage and due to him being more outgoing than his mom, he had many Italian friends.  Such an interesting read, check it out to learn more about Mike!

This past month sure was a lucky one over at Penny Lane Centers. We had some of our Penny Lane team attend the CA Alliance Advocacy Day in Sacramento. Our Commerce TAY Drop in Center received musical instruments for the youth to learn and use. We highlight the Supported Employment program success in our Antelope Valley Family Center, the West San Fernando Valley Preparedness Fair and much more!! Promotional Spotlight: Alexandra Fryer

For April's promotional employee spotlight, please meet Ali Fryer, Adoption Promotion Support Services (APSS) Supervisor, working at our Antelope Valley Family Center. Ali began her career at Penny Lane in December 2019 as an APSS Case Manager and since that time has earned her master’s degree in psychology which in part, led to her promotion in February of this year. In her current role as APSS Supervisor, she has two direct reports. The APSS Mentor Coordinator and Case Manager. Check it out to learn more about Ali this month!
