Ruben and Rosalba Martinez
By Leah Lomax
, Social Worker, North Hills.

Ruben and Rosalba Martinez are exceptional foster parents. They are always willing to go the 'extra mile' when it comes to bettering the lives of children. The Martinez's have been a part of Penny Lane Families for over eight years and have shared their home with numerous foster children. The Martinez's are always willing to take in any child, despite their age, race, or family history. Mr. and Mrs. Martinez are very loving and nurturing people who have
a strong sense of family.
The Martinez's have helped
so many children over the years and have developed extraordinary bonds with a lot of them. Some of the children still keep in contact with Mr. and Mrs. Martinez even though they no longer live
in the foster home.

Palmdale.

Her children observe that she is outgoing and caring. Her friends describe her as funny and patient. While her social worker feeds off her insightfulness, her husband delights in the fact that she is simply wonderful. This admirable woman is none other than Amparo Paniagua, Palmdale FFA's Foster Parent of the Month.

Amparo, born in Jalisco, Mexico carries many aspects of the welcoming Latino culture into her foster parenting. For 6 years Mrs. Paniagua has opened her home to over 20 foster youth. During those 6 years, she had recognized her unique gift for working with teenaged girls. The dramatic, detailed and at times emotional life characteristic of some teen girls would drive a number
of us to madness. However, AmparoÕs ability to work with teen girls is a gift from God. She has been exceptionally successful in building up teen girls' self-confidence and assertiveness.
