The Penny Lane Centers Antelope Valley Transitional Services
program is a spin-off of our North Hills facility. In early
2003, we began searching for an appropriate site to start
providing housing and support services for the emancipated
and emancipating foster youth of the Antelope Valley. What
we found was a six-unit apartment building, with two bedrooms
per unit near transportation major business areas.
Over the course of the next eight months, HomeAid www.homeaid.org
and Trimark Pacific Homes
www.trimarkpacific.com
donated
necessary renovations that brought the apartments up to
a comfortable living standard for residents. Those renovations
included drywall repair, painting, new flooring and a perimeter
block wall with rod iron fencing across the front of the
units.
With Independent Living Program funding, we are able to
house 18 residents, focusing particularly on mothers with
small children, a population desperately in need of resources
in the Antelope Valley area. All residents must have emancipated
from the court jurisdiction and are between the ages of
18 and 21. One last eligibility requirement is that all
of the residents at this particular site must have emancipated
from placement in the Antelope Valley, with the major part
of their support system in the area.
